Emerald obsidianite was discovered on accident after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens.  It came about from the fusion of volcanic rock and the ash from the volcano.  The emerald obsidianite’s color comes from the trace elements found in the volcanic rock.  These gemstones are created under laboratory conditions.

The Mt. St. Helens Twilight stone (light Tanzanite) is the latest color that comes from this creation.  While pale blue in color, when it is in the sunlight the stone turns a shade of purple or violet.
